F1: Victory at Singapore Virtually Assures Vettel of World Championship

Sebastian Vettel drove from pole to win the Singapore Grand Prix, and with this almost seal the world championship for himself. A late burst by Jenson Button saw him close in on Vettel at the end of the race, but he was caught up in traffic and had to settle for second. He is the only other driver now, besides Vettel, who can win the world chamionship, though that seems to be a very remote possibility. Third was Mark Webber, who started from P2 and again had a poor start. But some strong driving saw him come in second, ahead of Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso. Hamilton came in fifth, despite a drive-through penalty, and the Force India of Paul di Resta did a fantastic job of finishing a credible sixth. Rosberg finished seventh, ahead of another good performance by Sutil’s Force India in eighth. Massa and Perez took the last two point scoring positions on the grid at this Singapore Formula 1 race.

Rains were predicted for Saturday’s qualifying and Sunday’s race, but none of that happened, and the race went ahead in sparkling dry conditions, and the floodlight circuit only added to the spectacle. Tickets were sold out for the fourth year in a row, making it one of the most successful Grand Prix of the year.

Even though only Button can win the title now, besides Vettel, that seems very unlikely, as Button will have to win all the remaining races of this year’s formula one season, while Vettel will have to retire or not score any points in any of the races. And with the pace that Red Bull have, and the way that Vettel is driving, anything but a win will be on their mind. We may see Vettel crowned world champion in the next race, which is the Japanese Grand Prix. So be there!
